Dear Franklin Conference participants, supporters and interested Philadelphians,
The final session of the Franklin Conference on School Design is scheduled for Monday, June 27, 2005, at the Inquirer Building, 400 N. Broad Street. Philadelphia School CEO Paul Vallas is scheduled to be with us to formally receive the work of the conference. We invite you to join us that evening.
Since March, more than 400 Philadelphians have participated in eight events associated with the Franklin Conference. The opening plenary session at the
World Café Live was followed by five citywide sessions in which common-ground, values-based planning principles for school design and planning were derived from the civic conversation. These principles were tested by teams of professionals, students and citizens on June 11 in a design workshop at the Charter High School for Architecture and Design. The principles were published in an editorial in The Sunday Inquirer on June 19, 2005 (http://www.philly.com/mld/inquirer/news/editorial/11929233.htm), and the design results will be published in the June 26, 2005, issue of Currents in The Sunday Inquirer.
On June 27, we will present the results of the design workshop to Paul Vallas. The schedule for the evening will include a reception with refreshments beginning at 6:00 p.m., followed by a presentation of the results of the Franklin Conference on School Design. We will work in small groups to discuss how we might support the District in applying the principles before we meet with Paul Vallas at the end of the evening.
If you would like to attend the event on June 27, please RSVP to school@design.upenn.edu. For additional information on The Franklin Conference on School Design, see: www.upenn.edu/penniur/civic/franklin.
Yours truly,
The Franklin Conference
