On April 3, City Council passed a bill providing property tax relief, by a razor-thin margin. Members who voted for the bill shold be thanked. They are: Cohen, DiCicco, Goode, Kenney, Mariano, Nutter, Ortiz, Tasco and Verna.
Bill 14, sponsored by Councilman Nutter, will cap property taxes at 10% for this year. This means that taxpayers whose taxes were raised by more than that would get a refund or a credit, if they have already paid their taxes. (Many taxpayers have not paid because they are still appealing to the BRT).
