Subject:   Your Vote on Bill 629

Dear Councilmembers Clarke, Cohen, Goode, Nutter, Ortiz, Reynolds Brown, Rizzo &
Verna:

I am glad to hear you voted against Bill 629. I only just heard that this had
actually passed the City Council after similar language was amended to HB1954 in
Harrisburg. I greatly appreciate your vote against this bill, and I am sure I
am not the only voter who will be favorably predisposed toward you in future
elections.

Dear Councilmembers Clarke, Cohen, Goode, Nutter, Ortiz, Reynolds Brown, Rizzo
& Verna:

I was very pleased to see my two personal heroes, Goode and Ortiz vote against
this horrible bill. You two are the Councilmembers who have always cared and
shown concern for the neighborhoods. You two actually contact and stay in
touch with constituents. I am sorry to lose Mr. Ortiz but I will redouble my
efforst for Mr. Goode.

It is surprising to see Ann Verna vote against this bill though. Uually her
support is thrown in with whoever is going to make the most dinero, (was Sunoco
against this Bill Ann? Are the Pews tired of billboards and ugly development?).

Thank God that one sane thing came out of this springs session. I hope that
you all had great vacations. Now pass the Land Value Tax and be heroes.

futile.
Thank you for listening.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for protecting the City of Philadelphia from
the abuse of those who would trade campaign finance donations for the well-
being of the City. This is one of those quality-of-life issues which impact on
peoples' decisions regarding whether to live here. The blight of inappropriate
development takes a heavy toll on the quality of life. Norma Van Dyke

Subject:   Your Vote on Bill 629 - Right on!

Dear Councilmembers Clarke, Cohen, Goode, Nutter, Ortiz, Reynolds Brown, Rizzo
& Verna:

I deeply appreciate the concern and judgement you exercised in opposing Bill
629. The thoughtful views many of you expressed during the several times this
bill was considered showed you are in tune with issues of the neighborhoods, as
well as respectful of the balance of interests that Council must achieve.

I wish you all the best in your efforts to arrive at a more reasoned outcome of
the issue of neighbor and citywide advocate standing in zoning hearings, if
indeed the current legislation is in need of remedy.

Thank you for this and all your good public service work.

Best regards,
Tim Siftar

Now that the mayor has vetoed Bill 629, you deserve to feel happy that you had
the guts to vote against it in the first place. It seems to me most likely that
the very closeness of the vote in Council played an important part in his
decision. We in the neighborhoods are starting to pay closer attention to our
representatives who really do try to think of all the people, and not just the
greedy developers. We appreciated your vote then, and want to thank you now
again. We'll remember!
