Casinos: No Way without Our Say!

007 letters so far.

Write all your elected representatives TODAY!

No Way Without Our Say! Stop Foxwood and SugarHouse. Momentum is building. We must encourage action from everyone to send a fax through hallwatch today! Don’t give up, our numbers are growing. Send this email to all you know. WE NEED TO UNITE AND SPEAK OUT! Power is in numbers

Issue:

The state derives its power from the people, but in the birthplace of democracy, our elected representatives are blatantly disregarding our rights. Political hand shaking and backroom deals are alive and well in Philadelphia and the voice of the people is not being heard.

ACTION YOU CAN DO TODAY! Fax your representative through www.hallwatch.org and ask for a response. (It’s easy, just put in your address and your fax will be sent to all the your representatives)

Let them know “I am against the passage of Act 71 and demand to have my voice heard. No one asked us if we wanted to have casinos in our neighborhoods. Please tell me what action you are going to take, on my behalf, to right this wrong.”

Background:

Act 71 was passed in the middle of the night over the 4th of July weekend in 2004. Act 71 was originally a 33 line bill addressing background checks for people to work at the track.

The bill was in the house for 47 days in the senate for 100 days without amendment. On the eve of the vote those 33 lines were crossed off and replaced with 144 pages, without public scrutiny, public hearings or public input. The bill was passed.

Act 71 gave the unelected Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board the power to decide where the casinos would be located.

Act 71 sought to take away zoning power from Philadelphia.

On June 22, 2005, the PA Supreme Court ruled that the slots law except for three parts was constitutional. (The preemption of zoning was one of those.)

Our representative voted for Act 71 and we must do everything in our power to take back control of where casinos are located. We cannot accept such disregard from our officials that are supposed to represent us. If we let this happen now, what will be next?
