Subject:   All neighborhoods deserve protection from casinos

Dear Senator Fumo:

We should protect Philadelphias neighborhoods and provide a
universal buffer zone of 1500 feet. Sugarhouse and Foxwood
casinos are too close to where people live and both ventures
should be prohibited from building on the current sites.

Please redefine the permissable footage of your proposed buffer
zone designed to keep casinos from being built 1,500 feet from
schools, houses of worship, residential and recreational areas.

At the DRNA meeting held at the Hopkinson House, you said you
would introduce the 1,500 buffer legislation requested by the
DRNA group.

However, the introduced bills are not what was intended by the
DRNA’s request. Senate bills SB 1031 (Foxwoods) citing an
exemption limitation of 12.5 linear miles from a Category 1
facility (aka: racino) and SB 1032 (Sugarhouse) citing an
exemption limitation of 14 linear miles from a Category 1
facility (aka: racino) should be amended to a 10 mile limit.
Please amend your bills SB 1031 and SB 1032 which were referred
to the committee on COMMUNITY, ECONOMIC AND RECREATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT on JULY 14, 2007.

I urge you to do everything you can to keep your word and to
support the neighborhoods and people of Philadelphia.

Thank you,
Mary Stumpf
Ellsworth Street

Dear Senator Fumo:

Please redefine the permissable footage of your proposed buffer
zone designed to keep casinos from being built 1,500 feet from
residential areas. I want you to accept the buffer zone that
was incorporated into the failed referendum proposed for the
May election ballot. That buffer zone would not allow Sugarhouse
and Foxwood casinos from building on the sites now slotted for
gambling venues. I heard you say at the DRNA meeting held
at the Hopkinson HOuse that you would introduce the 1,500
buffer legislation requested by that group. I urge you to
do everything you can to keep your word and to support House
Bill 1477 introduced by Represenative Babette Joseph. Thank
you.

Dear Senator Fumo:

this casino corruption has gone far enough. we need democratic
procedures here. AT LEAST a 1500 foot buffer since it looks like
this town is getting railroaded to sugar hell.

thank you!

Dear Senator Fumo:
I am not sure how a government that is supposedly for the people
can justify any action that the people object to.
We did not vote on this legislation.
Please explain.
I do not want a casino in my city.

Dear Senator Fumo:

We are long-time residents of Philadelphia and live in Society
Hill with abundant historic homes and landmarks. We want our
neighborhood and all neighborhoods of Philadelphia protected
from the the destructive effects of casinos; that includes
Foxwoods and Sugar House. Please introduce legislation that
all neighborhoods have a minimum buffer of 5,000 feet.

Thank you for doing the right thing for Philadelphia.

Dear Senator Fumo:
I live in the Penn Treaty neighborhood of Fishtown. My street is
the first block off of Delaware Ave. (Columbus Blvd.) and will be
directly affected by the Sugar House casino. I can only see that
the effects will be negative. Traffic, drugs, prostitution, and
crime will be the legacy you leave for this re-burgeoning community.
I used to live right up the street from you in Spring Garden.
That was a nice neighborhood...and so is Fishtown. I seem to
remember having a trash pick-up twice a week when I lived by the
Art Museum. I don't believe that you would want a casino in your
neighborhood, much less in your front yard. Please use all of
your political affluence for a good cause and get these casinos
placed somewhere else. Neither community will benefit from them.
I think you know that.
Our waterfront could be great. It could be a place where people
would want to visit with their families. Think about Baltimore.
THAT could be your legacy. You could make things better. If the
casinos are there you know that it will only attract the
desperate and criminal elements that will eventually find their
way up into Center City or even closer (La Veranda? they have
really good langastinos don't they?)once they win big and maybe
you will have pass the salt to some jerk that might just piss on
your doorstep later on that night...or maybe that jerk will get
really drunk and start shooting a gun off on your street.
Please do the right thing. A lot of concerned voters are hoping
that you will remember that you are our representative. Please.

least 1500 ft. Please introduce your buffer bill before you and
your fellow Senators leave for the summer. Do not exempt
SugarHouse Casino from your bill. All neighborhoods deserve

Dear Senator Fumo:

Although the senate is in recess, I hope there is a way you can
work to authorize a buffer zone between casinos and residential
areas. It is rather well known that casinos attract some
unsavory individuals who prey on the casino-goers and anyone else
in their line of sight. To protect the residential way of life
and the vulnerable in areas abutting the casinos, it would be an
excellent idea to have a buffer zone of at least 1500 feet.

Thank you.

Please introduce 1500 foot buffer legislation in the Senate

that would apply retroactively to the two casinos with
provisional licenses to operate Foxwood and Sugarhouse.

Dear Senator Fumo:

As a resident of the city for over twenty years,I am strongly
oppose to having any casinos in the city. I think any funds that
the casinos will generate will come with a host of problems
which the city does not need. I urge you to think about the long
term ramifications of this project. I say this, because I have
seen the city throw away money on other projects, only to be
abanden later on. Please think about this issue!

Please help us preserve the quality of our neighborhoods by

not overburdened with traffic, and the social ills that casinos

Dear Senator Fumo:

It is disturbing to learn that your introduction of the casino
buffer bill was merely political farce (See July 14
Inquirer: "Fumo submits 2 casino bills, then disses both of
them").

How is it that the political lust for casino money is so great
that the needs and interests of your constituents can matter so
little to you and our other elected representatives?

Every effort should be made to see that the buffer bill is
enacted. Introducing it as an act of showmanship is an insult
to your constituents.
