Subject:   What is your position on casinos?

To my elected representatives:

I, along with a growing number of Pennsylvanians, oppose all
forms of casino gambling in Pennsylvania as Act 71 is the result
of legislation passed without any public involvement. The law
ensures that the people of Pennsylvania are stripped of their
right to be involved in the legislative process -- and in many
cases, stripped of their right to plan their own communities.
In Philadelphia, we have no say over the placement of these
massive gambling venues, all of which are currently proposed in
alarming proximity to thriving residential communities. These
casinos will increase crime, block our streets and
thoroughfares, ruin our open neighborhoods, and damage our
historic identity.

As a voter, I am as dissatisfied with this legislation as when
the Legislature voted itself and other state officials 16 to 34
percent pay raises during the early morning hours of July 7,
2005. Pennsylvania's voters rallied in protest to these
legislative pay raises and we shall rally again!

Therefore, I request a written response to these questions:

1. Will you support and vote for legislation to grant a one-year
moratorium on casino licensing in the Commonwealth?

2. Will you support and vote for legislation to repeal the
Gaming Act?

3. Do you approve of a process whereby the legislature makes
amendments to bills, without proper notification to the public,
then passes them on holiday weekends?

Thank you for your anticipated response.
