So many times we write you complaining about services in the
City. This is one time where it is a pleasure to congratulate
our elected officials on their good work in bringing income

Dear Elected Officials:
Thank you very much for developing a compromise that will enable
Ikea to open its store in South Philadelphia. I realize that
you have many competing issues to deal with, but the highest
priority should be to make the city attractive to businesses,
large and small, and to make opening and running a business in
Philadelphia as easy and inexpensive as possible. Without
profitable, responsible businesses, and the jobs and revenues
they generate, the city has no future.

Dear Elected Officials:
Thank goodness for a bright decision to aid the future growth of
our city! I could not believe those who battled this effort not
only to bring a much needed ratable, but to control some of the
flight from the city to shop at decent stores. Keep them
coming...and keep them here, and not in King of Prussia or
Cherry Hill!
Next move should be as NJ does, an enterprise zone with a sales
tax benefit!
There is ample space along the waterfront for future growth.
Too much of that space belongs to empty buildings and storage
companies.
Kudos to you!!!

Thank you for doing what was necessary to bring Ikea to Philly.
We really need some useful stores for adults in the Center City
area. This is a great step in making our city better and able
to compete with places like King of Prussia and Marlton, NJ.

Dear Elected Officials:
Thank you for "making dreams come true". I often wish that good
public policy decisions such as bringing IKEA to Philadelphia
were easier to craft than this one. Putting the interests of
your constituents front and center in the end was a noble and
forthright decision.
Due to your successful and difficult negotiations we who live
in South Philadelphia will finally have access to retail
choices similar to those of our suburban counterparts. For
someone like me who enjoys home improvement projects I will
finally have another choice (Lowes) than that currently offered
only by Home Depot. And finally I will not have to travel out
to Plymouth Meeting to shop at IKEA.
Congratulations for putting your differences aside and
improving my quality of life in Philadelphia.

Dear Elected Officials:
Thank you, especially Councilman DiCicco, for
doing the work necessary to bring Ikea to Philadelphia. Retailers like this
are good assets for the city as people will come from all over the region to shop
here and the city will benefit not only from their IKEA purchases, but from
whatever other purchases they make while in town.
This is a good deal and it
seems to benefit all involved. I appreciate your work to bring quality retail
to the city of Philadelphia.

Dear Elected Officials:
I was very pleased to learn this morning that all the relevant
parties were able to broker a deal that will bring Ikea and its
other retail partners to South Philadelphia.
These jobs will be important to the community. The tax revenue
will be good, too. And, of course, the fact that we'll now have
suburban-class shopping right !here in South Philly, within
spitting distance of all those affluent Center City residents One
more good reason to live on the South Side!
Thanks again.

Dear Elected Officials:
I applaud the last minute decision to "bring home the bacon", as
Ed Goppelt put it, rather than focusing narrowly on bringing home
the pork. While I couldn't imagine any other rational decision
regarding the Ikea deal, rationality has not always been the best
predictor of action in the City.
I hope some of the good sense, some of the concern for the future
of Philadelphia in the near and far term, will extend to other
issues like the Convention Center.
With thanks and holiday hopes for more good sense, and best
regards from a voter,
Cordially,

Thank you for your role in bringing about the zoning change
needed to bring Ikea to Philadelphia. The port has ample other
room for expansion when and if it is able to attract more
manufacturing businesses and other port users. In the meantime,
it is important for us to provide the retail opportunities which
will create jobs and tax revenues in the City rather than the
suburbs.
