Subject:   Please secure funding to sue the Gaming Board

To my elected officials in City Council:

Please fund Councilman DiCicco’s effort to file a lawsuit with the PGCB. Casinos are
no way to save our city; they will only break up neighborhoods and draw people
further into debt. Take a drive around Atlantic City; it's not a pretty sight and it has
won no awards for being a livable, successful city.

Sincerely,
Barbara Benton

To my elected officials in City Council:

Please fund Councilman DiCicco's effort to file a lawsuit with
the PGCB!

How are the casinos going to add to the quality of life of the
existing neighborhoods? We as a community do not need the
addition of the volumes of people, vehicles, and subsequent
crime. Please, please, please give DiCicco an opportunity to
expose the decisions that were made for us.

Subject:   Please secure funding to sue the Gaming Board

To my elected officials in City Council:

I urge you to please secure funding to sue the Gaming Board in
regard to blocking Foxwoods' construction of a casino/ "slots
parlor" at Delaware Ave. & Reed St. This is the worst possible
site for a casino due to traffic and its being very near to a
densely populated residential area. Traffic in that area is
bad enough. Adding a casino with its projected thousands of
visitors a day would make for even more horrendous traffic
conditions - and how are they going to get there and back if no
ramps are constructed? Through our neighborhoods! Add free
alcohol, take away money (that in most cases gamblers can't
afford to lose), and you have drunk, broke, demoralized people
driving through our neighborhoods at all hours and endangering
our children and other residents. We DON'T need that! Nor do
we need the additional crime and problems that a casino would
bring. A casino would severely compromise the quality of life
we now enjoy. Surely we can come up with something better than
a casino for that site.

Please fund this lawsuit to block the construction by Foxwoods,
and as a corollary measure, block the granting of riparian
rights to Foxwoods.

Thank you.

To my elected officials in City Council:

Dear City Council,

I am writing to urge you to fund Councilman DiCicco’s effort to
file a lawsuit with the PGCB. It is vital that Philadelphians
maintain control of our city. The state took away our ability
to control what happens in our city. Those in Harrisburg who
made the gaming decisions made them secretly, with no apparent
justifications, and made them in their own best interests.

Are we, as Philadelphians, willing to let Harrisburg control
this city? Do we want people who do not live here and who
rarely visit make such important decisions? Do they have any
idea what 20,000 additional cars a day will do to South
Philadelphia? To Northern Liberties and North Philadelphia?
Should they have the right to stifle Philadelphian’s access to
major roads and major stores – stores that were sorely needed
in South Philadelphia?

Are you, as City Council members, willing to let Harrisburg
destroy this city of neighborhoods by making decisions in the
best interests of voters in the middle of the state? Are you
willing to let Harrisburg make decisions to place a casino
practically on the original Swedish settlement that became
Philadelphia?

There are better locations for the casinos. There are better
casino designs. Let the casinos come if they must, but make it
a Philadelphia decision. Make this Philadelphia’s plan and
Philadelphia’s decision.

Vote today to stop Harrisburg’s slow but sure take over of
Philadelphia. Stand up to the bully.

Subject:   Please secure funding to sue the Gaming Board

To my elected officials in City Council:

I am writing to urge to support Frank Dicicco request for funds
to pursue lawsuits against the state gaming board.

I believe these casinos are bad for our neighborhoods and bad for
our city. I believe that the process through which the Foxwoods
and Sugarlands casino sites were chosen consistently and
deliberately ignored the rights and interests of the citizens of
the city and the commonwealth.

I especially believe that political influence and money were the
major factors that determined the gaming board’s choice, and that
influence and money were more important than the desires of the
taxpayers and more important than the suitability of the
proposals themselves.

And I believe that you have the power to change the outcome of
the board’s decision, if you want to change it. I will pay close
attention to how you vote, and you act, on matters involving
casinos in the city.

Thank you.

To my elected officials in City Council:

Please fund Councilman DiCicco’s effort to file a lawsuit with the PGCB.” The PGCB has
made its decisions without taking into account the effect on the neighborhoods of
having casinos at the Foxwoods and SugarHouse sites. This seems to me
unconscionable. Nor have they provided the information and the opportunities for
discussion that the neighboring communities are entitled to. They should not be
allowed to impose these casinos on the neighborhoods with so little regard for their
probable effect on the communities.

To my elected officials in City Council:

Please support & fund Councilman Dicco's lawsuit against PGCB's
decision on Phila. casinos for these various reasons:

-Casinos do not belong in residential neighborhoods! Think for
a moment. Would you like them in the very neighborhoods you
live, work and entertain?

-The increased traffic will impede so many people in their
efforts to get to and from work and school, travel to the
Columbus Blvd. stores, restaurants, entertainment venues,
ability to get to the 2 bridges, as well as decrease the
response rate for emergency responders, and add to air polution.

-The quality of life for many families will be hurt by the
negative elements casinos attract: gambling addictions,
prostitution, crime, drunk driving.

Many good families will be frustrated into leaving Phila...The
quality of life in Delaware will be enticingly more appealing
than having to contend with the casino-effects garbage.

I prefer there be no casino in Phila. But if there must be,
let it be away from neighborhoods, may be at the old Navy Yard
site, or in the greater Northeast where traffice flow is
opposite from the already conjected traffic flow into center
city, and again in a non-residential location. Thank you for
considering my ideas.

To my elected officials in City Council:

Please support the lawsuit against the casinos proposed for Philadelphia. We moved
to Philadelphia from California, lured by the promise of a changing city. Our South
Philly neighborhood has its problems, but it is worh preserving. We don't need to
introduce the damaging effect of casinos into these up-and-coming neighborhoods.
If you have any doubts about the determintal effect of the casinos in South Philly,
please take the time to drive up and down Columbus Blvd. during rush hour----and
the traffic will be the least of our problems. I can't believe that you are considering
casinos within a 1/2 mile of several elementary schools (Vare, Sacred Heart). Do
what's right. Remember who's interests you are trusted to protect.

thank you for your consideration

Dear Council Member,

I live very close to the Sugar House site and I am very concerned

Philadelphia if the casino ruins my neighborhood.

Please fund Councilman DiCicco’s effort to file a lawsuit with

To my elected officials in City Council:
The entire process used to choose casino sites was done without
transparency, behind closed doors. The two spots chosen are the
worst designs as well as the worst areas in terms of traffic
impact. How did The City of Philadelphia give away the
development rights on the Delaware River in two historic areas?
Either we are asleep at the wheel or someone got lots of money.
What a travesty and I dread the negative impact on the
neighborhoods nearby. You are supposed to be working for us and
our city so show some muscle. Liz Dailey

To my elected officials in City Council:
I have lived in South Philadelphia for more than 20 years. My
family and I feel strongly that the applications and sites
chosen for the casinos along the Delaware river front were not
chosen based on merit. The process was flawed and will
seriously effect the quality of life of the surrounding
neighborhoods. For these reasons we are asking that you vote to
fund councilman Dicicco's law suit challenging the decision of
the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
