Dear Mr. Mayor:

We have a right to have access to public records. I urge you to
allow the citizens of Philadelphia free access to those records
and give us the ease of accessing them through the internet. Do
not try to keep us in the dark- information is power and we are
entitled to that power.

Dear Mr. Mayor:

Your Administration has suffered in the public eye from
excessive and reasonable secrecy. Making public records readily
available to the public (your constituents) should not be an
issue.
So why is it? Why do we have to jump hoops at seeing records
that are the public's business. From a legal and moral
standpoint this is an intolerable situation.
Let the sunshine in, Mr. Mayor. Be responsive to your
taxpayers. Do the right thing.

Please make access available to private citizens for public
records. This will help civic groups track down absentee
landlords etc.

Dear Mr. Mayor:

If I understand correctly, the meaning of public means
accessible to or shared by all members of the community. There
fore, public records should mean that those records which are
deemed public should be open to be viewed by the public; the
people of our communtiy. Right? Wrong, according to you that is?

Mr. Street, I know the last thing you need now is a lesson on
meanings and definitions. Because you Mr. Street was elected by
the community of Philadelphia to be our Mayor. It does take a
man with intellence to become a Mayor and hold down this title
for two terms. So Mayor Street do our communtiy and my self a
service and make the records which are public, exactly that
public.

Dear Mr. Mayor:

As an antidote to the federal probe, the city must support policy
and procedures that make records public in a way consistent with
other municipalities and states.

This administration could leave a lasting legacy which it could
point to after stinging indictments. No better time than the
present to pass real open government and public records access
legislation.

Hallwatch's Ed Goppelt should never have to do a Freedom of
Information Act/Pennsylvania Right to Know Act Request for basic
civic and demographic data. All citizens have a right to the
records compiled by government paid for by the citizenry. It is
ours, because our tax dollars created these databases and
purchased the labor to manage this vital information.

Philadelphia really must take the basic steps beyond a shiny
homepage to give citizens reasonable access to data.

You can look like the force for the good of the city by posting
records online with user friendly tools. It would mark your
office and leadership as progressive and competent, and set you
apart from those who have been implicated in closed-door scandal.

Your constituents are concerned to know exactly what you are
doing about corruption in City Hall. Open government record
access is that first critical antidote that voters will
appreciate and remember when they go to pull the lever.

Thank you.

How can you call yourself an American when you are
keeping "public" records private? Something more to hide mayor?
Make them public and free to all.

It is my understanding that data and records kept by the City

Please make all public information freely available to

Dear Mr. Mayor:

Sheriff Durante of Montgomery County invited me to his office
and gave me a "tour" of his public access website and told me
how he got it paid for.

Very innovative. Very good. Very public minded. Very smart.

If you try it, you'll see acess is unrestricted...demonstrating
the very meaning of "public records."

Join us who are already in the 21st century, Mayor Street.
Otherwise, I'm sure we won't have this problem with Mayor Katz.

Subject:   Public Records Should Be Public!

Dear Mr. Mayor:

Philadelphia law (and U.S. legal tradition) mandate that certain
records are public information: property records (including
purchase, mortgage, violations, and others), marriage, birth,
death, court judgements, and other items.

These items should -- must -- be easily accessible to the
citizens via the internet. To say that they are public and then
deny citizens the right to view and search them as they see fit
is counter to our ideals of democracy and is just plain wrong. It
is also difficult to justify legally when others want to do it
for you.

Pleae make the data available through city web sites and to
others, such as hallwatch.org, who would do this service for you.
