Defend Our Civil Liberties: the Patriot Act Must Go!

The USA Patriot Act suspends our Fourth Amendment right not to be spied on by our own government. The law was passed in the hysteria following 9/11 without any kind of public hearing or debate. Even its name is dishonest: taking away Americans' constitutional rights is misguided at best and despicable at worst. It is anything but patriotic. Councilmembers Ortiz and Cohen plan on introducing a resolution calling on the United State Congress to rectify this assault on our American values of freedom, privacy and due process by repealing this bad law.
