Dear Sirs,
PLEASE do NOT let scores open a club in northern liberties.
Morals asside, it is a very bad decission for northern liberties property values and
the safety of its residents. Northern Liberties is a pocket of the city where young
families have moved who do not want to move out to the suburbs. It is NOT the
place for ANOTHER strip club. Delilahs at 2nd, and scores at 6th would create a
very bad coridore along callowhill/spring garden.
We strongly oppose this and hope that you will stand up to this organization, no
matter how much money they are throwing at any of you.
Thank You

I would like to stongly voice my objection to another club in
the Northern Libeties Area. My husband and I are in the
process of purchasing a home on North 4th Street. The price is
at least 4 times what it would have been 4 years ago, and than
we will have to put hundreds of thousands of dollars out to
make it habitable. The thought of Scores being within 2 blocks
of this home, is making us think twice about the investment.
There are numerous clubs in the area, including
another "Gentlemens Club". We have come to terms with them,
but the thought of the ZBA approving another site that will
cause more noise and congestion makes us wonder whena and where
it will stop. Can't the ZBA realize that Northern Liberties
and Old city are finally having a tremendous renewal for
residences. These new families and homes are the future of
Philadelphia, not another strip club. Philadelphia can
continue to redevelop and prosper, or it can regress to
the "Brain Drain" it once was. It is all up to our concilmen
and the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

I am writing to voice my opinion on the prposed strip club in the Northern Liberties
Neighborhood. We do not need this establishment in our neighborhood. If anyone
wishes to visit a "gentlemens club", we already have enough in the area. What we do
need is a top quality grocery store not a strip club.
Thanks.

This is a neighborhood where a new charter school is being
built, only about 4 blocks away. Sixth street is a major thru-
way to New Jersey, the soon to be renewed Franklin Square Park,
and about a half a mile from the National Constitution Center.
If you care about neighborhoods, this is not the place for
Scores!!!!!!!!

Zoning Board of Adjustment
City of Philadelphia
1515 Arch Street
Philadelphia, PA
Re: Calendar 05-0873 SCORES Strip Club
Dear Members of the Board,
The Maritime Exchange for the Delaware River and Bay wishes to
express its objection to the petition before the Philadelphia
Zoning Board for the proposed strip club, SCORES, at 450 North
Sixth Street.
In 2000, the Maritime Exchange elected to purchase property
within the vicinity of the proposed club as we believed in the
promise of the neighborhood renaissance underway in Olde City.
In addition to the fact that our business is situated in
historic Philadelphia, we also own and lease property in the
Olde City area. Needless to say, an enterprise such as this
will not only affect the value of our properties, but could
result in a further decline in the neighborhood. In addition,
as a non-profit trade association, the Maritime Exchange is
often required to host meetings, seminars and other events in
this community; and we are concerned that patrons of the club
could compromise the safety, security, and well being of our
employees and guests.
Finally, the Maritime Exchange is a strong supporter of the
Seamen’s Church Institute, as we have a common mission and
constituency. SCI is located within very close proximity to the
proposed new club; as a past member of the SCI board, I am
troubled by the fact that a strip club will be located so
closely to a place of worship and solace not only for the
Philadelphia community, but for thousands of seafarers arriving
at upper Delaware River ports each year.
It is our sincere hope you will reject this petition, and that
the club will seek a more suitable location.
Thank you for the opportunity to express our views.
Sincerely,
Dennis Rochford
President

Dear Councilmen and Mayor,
I am a transplant to this city. For six years I have found myself proud and
pleased to live here. I also have found it enlightening to drive through
different sections of the city. I have seen most extremes and the in-
between.
It is a wonderful movement Philadelphia has undertakened to take the
blight of the city and create better living environments for all its citizens.
I have been amazed at the reconstruction going up in areas which once
seemed to indicate some sort of urban warfare or earthquake zone.
Thank you to each of you for your role in this movement. All of our
citizens deserve safe and respectable housing.
Once in awhile business people come up with ideas they think will
provide a great service(and, of course, profitmaking business)for the
community. I'm happy to acknowledge that most of the time these ideas
not only benefit the business people but, also the city. Unfortunately,
one such idea has come to my attention that I believe is not in the best
interest of our community.
There is a proposition that a Scores Strip Club be built and opened on
N. 6th Street. Please, do not let this happen. There are too many risks
associated with this type of establishment and it's proposed location.
First, there has been recent development in the area that will be
adversely affected by such a business. Additionally, Philadelphia's
image as a great place for families and young people to visit will be put
in jeopardy. Why when Philadelphia has so much culture to offer
visitors as well as citizens should such a business be so close to one of
the major areas tourists and school children visit?
Philadelphia should take the high road. Stop this proposition.
Philadelphia should be known for our museums, our parks, our history
and our people. I ask you to work diligently to keep this strip club out of
this area of our city.
Sincerely,
Heidi M. Hess

Dear Representatives,
For the best reason to reject the adult cabaret application by
Scores Philadelphia, please note this paragraph on their own website:
“Do SCORES Philadelphia's opponents, regardless whether they live
blocks or miles away, realize that Mr. Hanson could reopen a
‘hip-hop’ club tomorrow at 450 North Sixth Street without any
review, community input, etc. Conventional nightclubs, with their
patrons who spill out into the streets after closing time are
nowhere as safe, and stabilizing, to their neighborhoods as a
SCORES Philadelphia will be.”
This is a very transparent (and transparently racist) threat
against the community. Clearly, Mr. Hanson and Scores are
prepared to destroy the nighborhood if they don't get their way.
As evidenced by the incident last week, where the co-owner of
Scores in New York (with half-a-dozen goons) attacked and stabbed
a pedestrian in front of Scores West, the corrupt culture of
Scores starts at the top. I urge you not to bend to their
threats against our neighborhood and our city.

I am a member of the Board of Directors of the Seamen’s Church
Institute (SCI) and I am writing in regards to the petition
before the Philadelphia Zoning Board for the proposed strip
club, SCORES, at 450 North Sixth Street. I am opposed to the
presence of this club in our community and in such close
proximity to our church facility.
The Seamen’s Church Institute made a major investment in this
community with its purchase and renovation of the former COFCO
headquarters. We are about to spend $1 million in the
construction of a new chapel facility within the Center.
Permitting club will degrade this community and turn it into a
red light district. This club is not compatible with the
residential development taking place here.
Further, SCI is a place of worship and is zoned as a church.
SCI holds regular worship services for our visiting seafarers.
Since the club is so near a place of worship (SCI), I would
publicly object on that basis as well.
Nearly 15,000 people come into SCI’s Center each year. These
include foreign seafarers, congregation members with their
children, people attending business meetings, staff and
visitors. The quality of this neighborhood has been enhanced by
the arrival of our facility this club will only degrade the
image, safety or security of this area.

While I'm not a resident of Philadelphia, I'm on the Official

detract from the quality of life in the neighborhood, and
therefore I am writing to ask you to oppose it.

There has been so much local investment of public and private funds into the area
around 6th & Spring Garden/Vine -- Why in the world would any civic minded,
elected official attempt to sabotage such efforts by allowing a strip club to operate
in the midst of an urban renaissance????
As I read through the comments from other neighbors concerning this issue, I sense
that there is little confidence in local government to do the right thing and protect
and nurture communities. As I read in the local papers about the pay-to-play
culture, I can completely understand why citizens have no confidence in local
officials.
Consequently, Philadelphians are realizing that they must take matters into their
own hands. What a shame and what a waste of energy that could be used in so
many productive ways tro further revitalize a moribund city.
As Mary Tracy of SCRUB has said "WE SHOULDN'T HAVE TO WORK SO HARD!" CITY
GOVERNMENT SHOULD BE WORKING *FOR* US -- NOT AGAINST US!!!!!!

Dear Councilmen and Councilwomen: I have just finished signing
a petition to the Directors of the World Cup Games in Germany
urging them to disallow the traffiking of women for
prostitiution during the games. It is my feeling that strip
clubs and casinos are just a stones throw away from bringing
this kind of behavior to our country. It breaks my heart to
think that there are men and women who think they have to "bear
all" in order to make a living. Is this the message we want to
send to children throughout our nation and the world?
I am aware that Delaware Avenue has been zoned for such "Adult"
activities as SCORES provides. Please don't allow them to
develop this strip club in such a beautiful residential and
historic area as Northern Liberties.
While I'm venting my spleen, please note that I am upset that
our Govenor, Mayor, and elected officials seem to be very
excited about placing Casinos around Philadelphia. I want to go
on record as opposing the development of casinos in residential
areas, wherever they may be. The argument for the casinos seems
to be to provide jobs for people and their families. But I feel
many children will go hungry because their parents become
gambling addicts.
Thank you for reading my letter and I pray, as I do nightly,
that the Lord will give you the wisdom you need to govern our
beautiful city wisely.

I love my home on Green Street. It is a fine, large, 150 year
old row house, completely paid for, and surrounded by friendly
neighbors. However, nighttime action on my street can be a
serious nuisance and is caused by people going to or leaving
nearby clubs.
We live two blocks away from the Palmer Social Club and the
Transit Club. It is around the corner from the Silk City Bar
(with and entertainment license) and RUBA Hall (with a fraternal
club license potentially open to 3 AM every night.) In the other
direction, less than two blocks away is Finnegan's (capacity
over 1000) at Third and Spring Garden, and the Abbeye bar at
Third and Fairmount. And we already have a big strip club nearby
(Delilah's)
Now another strip club wants to open on 6th Street, just two and
a half blocks away from my house. If is opens, it will push our
corner of Northern Liberties even further into being an
entertainment zone where late night noise and rowdy behavior is
seen as normal. This is happening already. If it gets any worse,
good people will have more reservations about living around here.
There are many large, under utilized properties all around this
part of Northern Liberties. Whether they stagnate or become
parking lots for more clubs, or they are developed into nice
houses and apartments, depends on the signal you send out
regarding the strip club on 6th street. Please oppose it.
Thank you.

As a 6 year resident of Old City I am greatly distressed at the
prospect of a strip club in the neighborhood. We are not only
the birthplace of liberty but also the focus of all visitors to
the city. I work in the same neighborhood and see the FAMILIES
that make Philadelphia and specifically this neighborhood their
vacation destination. The addition of such an inappropriate
business would drive away these families - along with their
dollars. It's simple economics and the plain old right thing
to do. What is the upside? Nothing. SO VOTE NO!

When we moved to Philadelphia from Chicago 22 years ago I was
disappointed in the city, but hoped it would change. It's truly
amazing how far this city has come, with so much new
residential and commercial development. We moved to Old City
two years ago, and when friends and relatives visit they are in
awe of this neighborhood, with the preserved, rehabbed
buildings and the historic wonders. A strip club would only
sully the environment, making a mockery of what so many people
have worked so hard to preserve and protect. What about the
many millions of dollars people have invested in this
community? Doesn't that take precedence over the whims of some
low-life strip club owners who don't care about the community?
There are plenty of "gentlemen's clubs" along Delaware Avenue
for those who wish to frequent those places. Just check out
the police reports about the fights and drunken brawls that go
on in those areas to get a taste of what SCORES might bring to
our neighborhood.
If, as our elected officials, you don't rise up and stop this
action from happening, just take a lesson from what's happened
in Harrisburg since the legislators voted themselves
that "secret" pay raise. How many of them do you think are
going to survive the next election? Do you want to see your
picture on the front page of the "Daily News" with a not-too-
flattering headline? This can't be politics as usual. Use
your influence to send these SCORES people packing.
Philadelphia, especially the historic community, doesn't want
or need them.

I am opposed to this new strip club. Old City has the
potential to be a very nice, safe, clean, family-friendly area
and it should not promote such undesirable activities. I do
not want to live in a neighborhood where drunks, prostitutes,
drug dealers and the like are walking the streets at night. If
you want to keep people with incomes living in the city and
paying taxes you need to make it a nice place to live.
