Mayor Nutter Urges Philadelphia
Voters to Back Fairmount Park
“Since 2004, Councilman Clarke
and I worked on legislation and
over time with the assistance of
the Philadelphia Park Alliance and
parks advocates we passed a bill
to restructure the management of
Fairmount Park and the Department
of Recreation. This is a move that
will bring our management structure
into the 21st Century.” said
Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown.
“Merging
the Fairmount Park Commission and
the Department of Recreation will
mean a more open and transparent
system of appointing commissioners,
clear lines of responsibility for
service delivery, and one unified
department with a unified purpose
– the revitalization of Philadelphia’s
parks and rec system,” said
Mayor Nutter.
"This
legislation will provide a blueprint
for the enhancement of our Parks
and Rec. System and I look forward
to a more transparent, efficient
system that works for the benefit
of all Park enthusiasts," said
Councilman Darrell L. Clarke.
