Ms. Janice Woodcock
Executive Director
Philadelphia City Planning Commission
Re: Request for Foxwoods Casino’s Plan of Development
Dear Ms. Woodock:
The Planning Commission will consider next week whether to approve the Plan of Development for Foxwoods Philadelphia Casino. On behalf of the Delaware River Neighborhood Alliance (DRNA), I ask that you post Foxwoods’ Plan of Development on your web site by 3:00 pm Tuesday, July 10, 2007 so that residents can prepare for this important meeting.
The Planning Commission received the Plan of Development from Foxwoods sometime prior to May 31, 2007 (i.e., almost six weeks ago) according to legal papers filed by Foxwoods and the City. It’s time for you to share this information with the public.
If providing the public with a meaningful opportunity to comment is important to the Planning Commission, I respectfully suggest that it release Foxwoods’ Plan of Development at least one week prior to the Commission’s meeting on July 17, 2007. In the case of the SugarHouse Casino the Commission asked residents to comment on a Plan which was made public only after the Commission had voted to approve it. I hope that the Commission will treat residents’ request for timely information with respect.
The Delaware River Neighborhood Alliance is a coalition group comprised of 24 civic organizations representing over 250,000 residents. The DRNA is not anti-casino, but member groups universally agree that a 1500’ buffer between casinos and neighborhoods is a reasonable minimum standard for siting. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Edmund Goppelt
