The Councilman & His Magnolia
2002/09/13 Somebody set fire to Councilman DiCicco's magnolia plant late Wednesday afternoon. The Councilman thinks the vandalism was the work of John Dougherty's Electricians Union, but didn't offer any specific evidence to support his charge. Officers of the Electrician's Union, for example Ed Kirlin, have been heckling the Councilman at recent public meetings.

2002/09/13 The Councilman thinks that lighter fluid or something similar was thrown into this planter in front of his house. The plant appeared undamaged to me.

2002/09/13 According to the Councilman this security camera, mounted above a doctor's office at 11th & Federal, captured an image of the vandal.

2002/09/13 Although the camera looked like it couldn't possible capture the Councilman's house in its field of view, DiCicco says the camera has a superwide angle lens. I had no idea my neighborhood was so completely surveiled. Kristians Restaurant, which a Daily News report incorrectly identified as the site of the Camera, also has several.

3rd Police District
2002/09/13 The Councilman says he reported the incident to Captain Weaver of the third district, but police staff said there was nothing on file. Responding officers are supposed to complete an incident report, in police parlance a 7548, after every call so the lack of a report is a bit of a mystery. Lt. Wells, who said he was speaking for the Captain, told me the incident "is a matter between the Police Department and the Councilman." He also confirmed that the Councilman and Captain Weaver had discussed the incident.
