Ground zero for the rally: Columbus and Dickinson
2006/09/10 About 400 residents of South Philly turned out Sunday afternoon to protest against the Foxwoods casino proposed for South Columbus Blvd. View a video of the rally. The casino would stretch 2 blocks from Dickinson and Home Depot to the South to Reed and Comcast to the North. This is the second large rally held against Foxwoods. The first rally was held about four months ago at the same location, with about the same number of people. Differences this time: far fewer homemade signs, fewer residents of other areas of the city.

Will the City retain its zoning power?
2006/09/10 This man's sign refers to the attempt by state Senator Vincent Fumo and Governor Ed Rendell to take away the City of Philadelphia's right to enforce zoning and safety regulations on casinos. Fumo represents the district in which the Foxwoods' casino would be built.
