Here are some of the things residents asked and told their elected officials on Friday:

"Isn't there anything else besides waiting for nickels and dimes of the Appropriations Committee?"

"Can Harrisburg do better than the $2 million increase it has planned for the libraries this year?"

"The death of a library is the death of literacy. The death of literacy is the death of democracy. The death of democracy is the death of freedom."

"I hate to see the new library being used as a political football."

"The City gave Comcast all kinds of tax breaks. I don't understand why we bend over backwards for large corporations that can afford these taxes."

"Comcast owes the City 12 years worth of public access Television."

"If people in the neighborhood raise money is there anyway to guarantee that it stays [with the Santore branch]?"
