14 Philadelphians were arrested today for attempting to search the offices of the Gaming Board.

Altogether about 50 Philadelphians traveled to Harrisburg today to search for documents the Gaming Board has declined to make public. In an ultimatum delivered five weeks ago, Casino-Free Philadelphia told the Gaming Board to make available basic casino planning documents such as site plans and financial projections or residents would search the Gaming Board offices themselves.

Residents attended this rally at 11 am, then proceeded across the street to the offices of the Gaming Board to conduct their document search.

Gaming Board spokesman Doug Harbach did not respond to Hallwatch's request for comment on today's event.

2006/12/11 Woodring told the protesters to leave or face arrest. The protesters were well treated by police who carried out their duties efficiently and with care. Arrestee Norma Van Dyke said that the officer arresting her told her everything she was going do before actually doing it ("Now, I'm going to cuff you etc.).

2006/12/11 As Chief Legal Counsel, Gaming Board employee Frank Donaghue would have had a substantial say in decisions about which documents to release to the public--the very decisions being protested today. Donaghue brushed aside Hallwatch's request for an interview on his way out of the Gaming Board's offices.

Rosenblum said she was shocked after returning from Myanmar (Burma), a dictatorship with an awful record of respecting human rights, to learn that what she had been saying about America being open and transparent simply wasn't true, at least not in the case of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
