A coalition of 21 park groups is calling on the City's judges to put aside politics and install new leadership at the Fairmount Park Commission. Unlike other cities, in Philadelphia it is the Judges and not the Mayor who choose the Park Commissioners.
The Parks coalition announced its Coalition Slate at a press conference in Fairmount Park yesterday. The coalition, which was put together by Friends of Philadelphia Parks, would like the City's judges to consider its group of 7 distinguished Philadelphians when it comes to filling the to fill the 10 openings on the Fairmount Park Commission The Coalition Slate includes a former Director of Philadelphia's Department of Recreation, two Professors, a CEO and several accomplished attorneys.
The Judges are scheduled to vote on the Commissioners May 16.
