Former Schools Chief Phil Goldsmith will take over as
Executive Director of Fairmount Park.
Mayoral spokesman Frank Keel is quoted
in the Daily News as saying:
"Despite the fondness that many felt for Bill Mifflin, this was a decision that had to be made.
The mayor thinks this is a good move. The park is incredibly vital to the city and we can't ever let it lapse into a state of
disrepair. There is work to be done to reclaim it, frankly."

ATTENTION PHILADELPHIA PARK CONSTITUENTS:
On July 31, Phil Goldsmith was named Interim Executive Director of the Fairmount Park Commission (FPC), replacing longtime FPC Executive Director Bill Mifflin, who had served in that capacity since 1988, and with the Commission since 1968.Mr. Goldsmith worked formerly as the Interim CEO of the Philadelphia School District. A primary goal of his tenure as interim FPC director is to help lead the search for new, permanent Executive Director.
We thank Bill Mifflin for his career of service at Fairmount Park. A dedicated leader with a deep understanding of the Park, he managed the Commission through years of diminishing funding and staffing.
The Friends are optimistic that Interim Executive Director Phil Goldsmith has the ability to look at and manage the Park in a new way for the city of Philadelphia, and to work with leadership and key stakeholders to reposition Fairmount Park as the valuable asset we know it to be.
