"Philadelphia Parks Need New Leadership"
1970/01/01

From left to right, Josh D'Ancona, Program Manager for Friends of Philadelphia Parks and two parkies.

A coalition of 21 park groups is attempting to persuade the Board of Judges to install new leadership for the parks. In the past the Judges have often deferred to the wishes of party leaders about appointments. This time the hope is that the Judges will put sound leadership for Philadelphia's parks first and politics second.

Philadelphia's parks have suffered from decades of neglect while new stadiums, costing hundreds of millions of dollars, were quickly approved by the City Council and Mayor Street. A stagnant budget and well meaning but ineffectual leadership have contributed to the Park's decline.
