My name is Aleama and I am the neice of Aaron Jones who you
sent to death row in 1994. I would like to know if you could
spare his life for mines. I am only 24 but I know my uncle is a
good man and you basically judge him by what the media made him
out to be. Since your just judging him by what the media made
him out to be, then you should put me to death by what my
enemies say about me. My uncle has been on death row because of
you. I hope that when you go to bed at night you think about
the families you are hurting. I just took my police officer
exam and I got an 84% on the test so hopefully this December I
can start the police academy. I will make sure that I will not
turn into you. Just because I have a little power I will not
let it go to my head. I will make sure I receive the facts and
not listen to hear say. I will always help my community and do
good by others. I will not only catch the bad guys but catch
the bad law enforcers also.
Thank you for your time and I hope you sleep well tonight.

Please give me a chance and read this story,
A person as yourself, you are in a position to make a
difference and lend a hand to the truth. Philadelphia’s justice
system has failed us once again and it’s not fair:
A Miscarriage of Justice…..In Sept. 1997, David Williams found
himself in serious trouble as he had been arrested and charged
for 6 gun point armed robberies. He was very familiar with the
criminal justice system so he did what many in his situation do –
he offered information. Williams told Philadelphia Police about
a conversation he had with John Miller, where Miller supposedly
admitted to killing a man during a failed robbery attempt at
Philadelphia’s 30th Street Station parking lot in October 1996.
Williams was able to provide some details which matched the
crime scene (although other details did not), and he named
another individual as having supplied a 9 millimeter gun to
Miller. All of the details supposedly came to Williams from
Miller. Michael Arnold was questioned. Arnold divulged that a
few months before the homicide he threw away a .380 or 9
millimeter hand gun of which Miller took possession. Arnold told
police that the gun in question did not work. Based upon those
two statements from Williams and Arnold police arrested Miller,
who denied any involvement in the crime and steadfastly
maintains his innocence. The Recantations…..At Miller’s hearing
Williams recanted his earlier statement. In other words, he
denied that Miller had confessed the killing to him. Asked why
he falsely accused Miller, Williams replied there had been a
personal rift between the two, plus he was in a “predicament so
why not use Miller as a scapegoat”. At Miller’s trial Williams
again recanted his initial statement, but with a different
twist. This time Williams claimed that detectives fabricated the
statement and coerced him to sign it. In a third court
appearance in July 2004 Williams testified that he alone
committed the homicide for which Miller is presently serving a
life sentence!
The Law…..The law stated that a person who signs a
statement can later be challenged and confronted with it if his
testimony is inconsistent with that statement. It is for the
jury to consider both in making a determination of what is true
and not true. The law also presumes that recantation testimony
is not credible. There are good reasons for both laws, all of
which are too legalistic to explain here. But, these are the two
primary laws by which the DISTRICT ATTORNEY convicted an
innocent person and now determinedly presses to uphold the
conviction. The aims of this letter is to show how myopic
district attorneys ( and police) refuse to even consider that a
wrongful prosecution has occurred and are condemning an innocent
man to sentence of life without parole. Miscarriage of
Justice….. A miscarriage of justice is defined as a result which
no civilized society can tolerate. Quite obviously, one would be
hard-pressed to find a single, sensible citizen who would trust
Williams with the keys to those persons automobile or home! Yet,
prosecutors in this case argue that of Williams’ four accounts
it is the initial out of court statement that is true (
naturally, because that statement justifies Miller’s
conviction). There does not exist any physical evidence or
witnesses to account that Miller was involved in the crime. A
single 9 mm shell casing was found at the scene of the crime,
but no 9 mm weapon was ever recovered. Forget “CSI”….. During
his initial questioning Williams was asked, and he denied his
involvement in the killing. Despite being in custody for six
armed robberies Williams was not subjected to a polygraph or
asked to supply an account of his whereabouts for the date of
the killing. Williams surrendered a .380 handgun to police, yet
his residence was not searched for a 9 mm handgun. Similarly,
the gun that Arnold claimed to have transferred to Miller was
not pursued. Neither police not prosecutors ever asked Arnold
from where he obtained that gun, which could have even any of
three different calibers according to Arnold himself. In the
initial statement Williams recounted the Miller claimed to have
injured his finger and bled at the crime scene, yet no blood was
found or preserved. Williams also claimed that Miller had gotten
only a small amount of money from the robbery, yet no money was
missing; from the evidence could be a discarded ball cap that
police recovered from the parking lot. No one can say if the
ball cap was connected to the killer, but police did not even
bother to examine it for a connection between Williams (or
Miller). It’s easy to surmise that the killer lost or discarded
the ball cap as he fled the crime scene.
The myopic of law enforcement in Miller’s case is
frightenly compounded by the total lack of investigation into
Williams being the killer even after his three sworn, in court
recantations. To this day authorities have not interviewed
Williams, or any of his prison cell mates. The possibility that
Williams perpetrated a robbery murder is rejected by the
district attorney despite Williams’ own sworn testimony that he
is guilty! The district attorney’s only action in response to
Williams’s confession? He’s been charged with perjury.
Apparently, they have had enough of Williams. John Miller has
spent over seven years “upstate” for a crime he did not commit.
He wonders when enough will be enough. It’s a shame that the
District Attorney can just turn a blind eye to the truth and act
as if an innocent man has not been convicted for a crime that
has not been proven. This big cover up has to stop. Authorities
need to admit when they are wrong and correct it. This is a cry
of help! How many more years? How many more innocent
convictions? Prevention is always better than the cure; let’s
make sure senseless convictions like this never happen again.
Thanks for your time,

I previously wrote you re: John Miller. This is the guy who you
let a jury convict and they had no evidence. Yeah no gun, no
witness,no fingerprints, no DNA, and nothing putting him at the
scene of the crime. Well remember those two witnesses that came
forward on Miller's behalf and you used your own personal
feelings instead of the actual law, you denied there testimony
saying you did not believe them. Well it seems that you were
wrong after all.How about the person who the witnesses tried to
tell you had something to do with the murder has confessed. So
what kind of impression does that give to Philly residents? I'll
tell you: You cannot believe in the system you have to wait and
see if they believe you they don't pay evidence any mind. In
accepting your position as a judge you were given a certain
honor, What happened to Miller's honor? Who has to pay for the
mistake of this man being jailed for 6 years for a crime he had
nothing to do with. Who tax money is going to pay him if he
decides to sue.No evidence. Allen Iverson's case next to this
one proves that all you need is money to recieve justice. If you
ar rich and you only witness recants and there is no other
evidence your case is dropped but if you are Miller and youronly
witness recants his statement and there is no other evidence
they don't care as long as they close this case. And they have a
confession. Why is Miller still jailed? Can you explain that one
judge?

Hello YOur Honor,
I'm writing because I am currently a student at The PJA School
and I am striving to become one of the best Criminal Lawyers in
the country.I now understand that to convict someone you have to
have evidence,EVIDENCE,in order to convict.John Miller was
convicted by a jury and sentenced to life in prison for a murder
that had no evidence. The only witness against him went to police
once he was already jailed and stated that Miller told him that
he committed this crime(HEARSAY).Once at the preliminary trial
and at trial this witness recanted his statement because he saw
that the DA gave him no leaverage in his own case. The DA had no
gun, no witnesses, no fingerprints, no DNA, and nothing putting
Miller at the scene of the crime. So how did this result in life
in prison? You mean to tell me that someone can take me off of
the street and ruin my the rest of my life with no evidence? He
even had two witnesses come forward, yes after all this time,
only because Miller's family are very private people and they
don't put there business in the street.Every one knew Miller was
locked up for murder but they did not know what murder, well
after it finally started to get around peoople in the
neighborhood started talking saying that he couldn't have done
that. Now these are boys from the street they are scared of the
law because they themselves aren't living right that's why it
took them so long to finally say something to his lawyer.Another
thing at trial one cop stated that the only thing found at the
crime scene was a cap, why wasn't the cap tested for any DNA
Miller doesn't even own a cap he never wore them. This case
seems so strange nothing put this man behind bars.Every one we
tell about this thinks that something is being left out, even
theGovenor thoughtthat I was leaving somnething out.But there is
nomore to it.Allen Iverson's case was similar witness recanted
no other evidence the case was dropped. Miller witness recanted
and no other evidence but he got life in prison. If he would have
had Iverson's 2 million $ lawyer would it be a different
outcome.Innocent until proven gulty,PROVEN GUILTY,where is the
proof?Why is the DA always stalling(NO PROOF)Why can't Miller
gat another trial?(NO PROOF).Your honor this is the rest of this
man's life please consider putting pressure on the DA for
substantial evidence and giving Miller another chance at a new
trial or freedom.

Please tell the citizens of Philadelphia your reason for the stay
of execution you just granted to a cop-killer. Do you know
someting that the people don't? I can only hope that if you were
gunned down and left for dead that your killer would not be
executed! I will always say this. The Judges in Philadelphia are
to far removed from the people you represent. Maybe if you were
to live where the people accused of a crime live , then you would
see how you affect the neighborhoods in Philadelphia. It is sad
that you do not see the criminals in their settings and way of
life. I know one thing....I could never be a judge, as the one of
the conditions of being a judge is being heartless to a victim
and show favortism towards the criminal. I am sickened by your
ruling, as are the people of Philadelphia.

Dear Judge,
Last night I interviewed Joseph Hudak, a Pittsburgh lawyer who
currently is in Allegheny County Jail. Mr. Hudak was sent to
jail on a charge of contempt for failing to appear at a trial in
our county in mid-late May. Mr. Hudak tells me that he was under
a body attachment to appear at a capital case before you and
that Judge David Cashman of the Allegheny County courts phoned
and, in the course of a conference telephone call, threatened to
have Mr. Hudak:
1. Arrested by sheriff's deputies while in your courtroom.
2. Taken away from Philadelphia to be incarcerated.
Additionally, Mr. Hudak informs me that while you were, in his
view, calm and your language temperate, that Judge Cashman used
several profanities and was extremely aggressive.
I think it is important to sort this matter out inasmuch as
Judge Cashman, at present, shows no inclination to release Mr.
Hudak from Jail.
Would you kindly advise whether Mr. Hudak's recollection of this
incident is accurate.

Dear Guardian of Philadelphia Parks:
I will make this short in the hope that you will take a moment to
read it.
As a native Philadelphian I have always regarded the park
system as defining a very special city. As a child, my family
would take Sunday strolls in Fairmount Park; as a Boy Scout, we
would take hikes along the Wissahickon; and where I would, later
as a parent, take my daughters for riding lessons; and where my
aging father would sit on a bench by the stream and adore his
beautiful grandchildren I live on a city block that ends at Morris
Park, where my daughters played when they were very young. And
now my grandchildren have the benefits of the parks.
I strongly urge you to provide the leadership required to
have and grow a healthy park system by supporting our slate of
Fairmount Park Commissioner candidates: ED BRONSTEIN, MICHAEL
DiBERARDINIS, DEBRA WOLF GOLDSTEIN, JOSEPH M MANKO, DAVID D. POPE,
DORIS A. SMITH, AND WILLIAM A. WILSON.
Thank you for your attention.

As a member of the Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers, I have
seen first hand how the Wissahickon Park area has been allowed to
suffer from neglect and misuse. I have also seen the need for a
strong and visionary leadership to bring guidance and support for
the many grass roots organizations, such as the WRV, which are
trying to restore the Park to its former splendor.
Furthermore, it is equally vital to select a commission which
will find creative ways to manage the "confusing overlap of
mission between the Park Commission and the city's Recreation

city life. I live in Roxborouogh and have utilized the park
throughout my childhood and adult life. This asset is one of
the reasons I have remained a city resident-tax payer.
A strong vision is necessare to maintain the quality park
system that has been such a great part of my life. These

Thank You,

I strongly urge Philadelphia's judges to consider the Coalition
Slate for Philadelphia Parks when voting on May 16 for Fairmount
Park Commissioners. Our parks need stronger leadership and these
persons have the background to make good commissioners.

The parks are very important to me. I grew up in the city my
whole life, and as a child spent many summers playing in the
parks. I can't imagine living in a big city like Philadelphia
and not having the parks. As a late middle-age adult, I still
spend many evenings and Sunday afternoons strolling through the
parks. Forbidden Drive is such a treasure!! We need strong good
leadership tho maintain and preserve the lovely parks for future
generations. They are as important of an infrastructure to the
city as the big sky scrapers in center city. They need the same
attention!
Sincerly, a concren citizen,

Dear Guardian of Philadelphia's Parks:
The condition and quality of the park system - particularly our
'natural' park environments of Pennypack and Wissahickon - are
very important to me. They are, perhaps, the most compelling
reason for me to stay, and pay taxes, in Philadelphia.
It is evident that insufficient budgets, languishing stewardship
and etraordinary popularity have taken their toll on all our
parks over the past decade or so. We need to act quickly to
restore a balance, even if it means sacrificing some of our
accustomed freedoms of access and use.
Only a dedicated, educated board of conservators can successfully
manage the difficult task of healing these precious resources,
perhaps the best examples of urban parkland in the US.
I believe the Coalition slate of candidates, specifically:
Michael DiBerardinis
Doris A. Smith
Ed Bronstein
David P. Pope
Debra Wolf Goldstein
William A. Wilson
Joseph M. Manko
have both the qualifications and the vision equal to this task.
Please show that you care by doing all you can to ensure that the
best possible appointments are made. It will be a decision that
accrues benefits across the generations.
Thank you.

Dear Guardian of Philadelphia Parks:
I regularly use the parks and I am a committeeperson in a ward
and division that is very near the park.
I know of many of the people on the slate being promoted by the
Friends of Philadelphia Parks and I highly support this slate.
I ask that you support and vote for the people on this slate.
Thank you,
