Subject:   who will help the children

I am writing on behalf of 2 very people who are very close to me
and who have the same plight.
In 2004 my sister was living a normal life. She had a daughter
from a previous marriage and was engaged to be married to her
newborn sons father. He was tragically killed in a motorcycle
accident on route 405 outside of watsontown. At that point her
life made a complete hault! Not knowing what to do, she spent a
few months back home in Williamsport cleaning up things and at
that time decided to move here to start her life over again and
be near me and my children. She moved here in March of 2005 and
got settled into her home and started looking for work. When she
found a job in October she signed up through Child Care Choices
to get help paying for her daycare expenses. At that time she
was put on a waiting list. It has been close to 5 months now and
she has only moved up on the list to number 3 and 4. When she
called Child Care Choices last week to see what the time line
was for her getting assistance they said she more than likely
would not be able to get any help at all this
entire year!! The other person who is very close to me is my
best friend. She has to rely on family members to watch her son
so he is shipped around from family member to family member each
day until she can get him into a daycare which now it seems may
not be for another year! This is the most ridiculous thing I
have ever heard of.
This is all because our govenor has cut funding for this
program. Now I ask you as an 'at one time single mother'
myself ... does this make any sense to you? It surely doesnt to
me. Do they want single parents to not work? It seems you work
to just pay child care! Now that assistance has been cut what
happens to the children? I am sure if I personally know 2 people
in this situation that this may be a problem all over Snyder
County and if we raise enough awareness and put enough pressure
on the right person we may be able to help these familys in
need.
I can be reached at this email address or at 570-372-2137 thank
you for your time and I hope you will help me join in this fight
for the children!

Subject:   Hunger

It has recently come to my attention that Kenya and surrounding
nations are experiencing an extremely devastating famine.
According to the United Nations World Food Program, 11 million
people across the Horn of Africa are in need of aid. The
situation has worsened to the point that the Kenyan government
has recently waived taxes on relief food and Kenya’s President
Mwai Kibaki has appealed for $150 million in an attempt to feed
the estimated 2.5 million Kenyans who are currently starving to
death. This matter concerns me because for one month last summer
I had a unique opportunity to travel to Kenya and volunteer in
schools, churches, orphanages, and hospitals. I lived and worked
alongside Kenyans in the Nairobi slums, one of the poorest places
in the world, and I gained new perspectives on poverty,
homelessness, and hunger. Unlike in the United States, the
government of Kenya is unable to provide their people with
welfare, food stamps, homeless shelters, or unemployment offices.
The people are on there own, struggling each day to find food or
a decent place to sleep. It is not difficult to see that Kenya
desperately needs the help of a nation like ours. You have to
power to bring this tragedy to light and enable the United States
to drastically improve the lives of millions. I do not believe
that this is in any way and unreasonable or unachievable request.

Subject:   DCNR plans for Milton State Park

Dear Representative Fairchild,

I am writing in regard to the decision of the Pennsylvania
Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to close McCall
Dam State Park and Little Pine State Park’s group camping facilities.

The Boy and Cub Scout Troops in and around Lewisburg use these
facilities on a regular basis to provide our Scouts with outdoor
camping experiences. Without these facilities, our troops will
be forced to severely curtail our outdoor programs, especially
those that focus on the Camping merit badge, a required badge for
Eagle Scouts.

We have been informed that the DCNR has plans to establish trails
and a rustic camping area in the Milton State Park. However,
their efforts along those lines appear to be proceeding very
slowly. We understand that Representative Phillips may be able
to encourage their labors.

In the past you have been supportive of the programs of the Boy
Scout and Cub Scout troops in the area. We would be most
appreciative of any efforts you can make to provide group camping
facilities available in our area.

Sincerely,

Lawrence Rothblum

Subject:   Employment opportunities

Honorable Russell H. Fairchild,

I am currently a college senior at Susquehanna University, with
a double major in International Politics and German. While i
come from NJ, I have grown to love PA, and am hoping to find
employment here for the state government. I was wondering if
you could offer me any suggestions on getting my foot in the
door. I have extensive experience, as I have been a
congressional intern, and i have also been an active volunteer
to political endeavors in NJ since the age of 16... I am very
motivated, focus driven, and hardworking, and hope to pursue a
career in the Harrisburg area.

I am very intent on remaining here in PA, as it feels more like
home to me than Jersey does. Any suggestions you could lend me
would be wonderful.

Thank you for your time,
Charlotte Hughes
