“Looking back over the years, I know I was able to make
two very important and very right decisions.
The first was in 1907, when I consented to marry Ernst Behrend.
The second decision was to make this outright gift
to the Pennsylvania State College of Glenhill Farm
as a memorial to my husband.”
From Mary Behrend’s remarks at the
Behrend Center dedication,
October 30, 1948
Mary Behrend,
the original benefactor of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College,
was a philanthropist and visionary
who shared Ernst Behrend’s interest in education.
As a living tribute to her late husband, Mary Behrend
formally signed the estate over to Penn State
on June 28, 1948.
Join us as we kick off our 60th anniversary year
at this celebratory dinner
to commemorate how
Mary Behrend’s gift of Glenhill Farm
has blossomed into what is Penn State Behrend today.

When is Pennsylvania going to pass a smoking ban? Why is our
state so backward? The Govenor wants it, most citizens (voters)
want it, so when is your branch of government going to do
something?
