Dear Senator Fumo:
Please make the complete text and contents of the Senate
Ammendment to SB 862 available to the people who have voted you
into office and also to those who did not vote for you in the
past. We are all together in this matter and we want to know what
the state of PA is doing in our name and in our communities.
My family and many of my neighbors will very soon become citizens
who will NOT vote for you or any supporters of this "legislation"
if the abomination of a "tax shifting" casino plan is not slowed
down or reversed post haste. There is no place in a democracy for
this unprecedented corporate gambling power grab aided and
abetted by self absorbed and coopted "public" servants. These
elected servants are the same lawmakers who based a secret and
mendatious public decision adversly affecting the many on the
excessive needs of private wealth acrued by the few.
Thank you in advance for your honesty.

| Subject: | Show us the Senate Amendment to SB 862! |
Dear Senator Fumo:
Since this senate amendment is so vital to our well being and
quality of life, I would like to see a copy.It is important that
the citizens be informed of this legislation. I am encouraged
that zoning rights may be restored to the city of Philadelphia,
and also that casinos would not be exempted from the smoking ban
that was passed in Philadelphia. That is unfair to local
businesses and puts those who visit any casino at risk from
second hand smoke. Please consider the democratic rights of
Philadelphians to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Please do not erode our quality of life and values by placing
casinos on the Foxwood site or any site where there is firm
neighborhood opposition.

Dear Senator Fumo: I am excited that you have responded to the
voices of your constituents, but there must be transparency with
you and any elected official. You do a lot for your constiuents,
but that is no excuse for secrecy and what appears to be an
attempt to hoodwink or deceive. Release your bill and let us
see what it says. Ronald Nicholls

Dear Senator Fumo and other state legislators:
The provision to allow casinos to obtain riparian rights without
going through the state representative for a district is also
unacceptable. It should be defeated.
Is Sen. Fumo a Democrat representing Philadelphia, or did some
Republicans from central PA leave a pod in his basement, a la
"Invasion of the Body Snatchers?" Or perhaps Sen. Fumo is moving
to another district (to get away from the casinos, no doubt!) and
is protecting the interests of the voters of his future district
over those of his current one? I can't think of too many of his
current constituents, regardless of how they feel about the
casinos, who would forever give up their right to any say in how
those casinos operate in their neighborhoods.

any changes to this very important SB 826. These casinos are

Dear Senator Fumo:
I am in complete agreement with the letter written by Ed Goppelt
from Hallwatch.Org. I want you to tell everyone in your
district what changes you plan to make. We'd like to see it in
enough time to digest this information before putting anything
to a vote. I reiterate some of Mr. Goppelt's words:
A a new Senate amendment will restore my rights and those of the
City I live in to regulate casino zoning and safety. (I
personally would prefer decisions remain with the state but
INCLUDE the people who live here. I'd rather not see the
corrupt incompetents who run Philadelphia City Government get
any more chance to bilk the citizens out of tax money and enrich
themselves and their friends. I feel more comfortable with State
Rep John Taylor looking out for me than anyone else - he
actually spends much of his time with neighborhood residents
attending almost every community event we have. He knows what
we think and how we feel because of that and he makes himself
accessible to communicate with directly at every opportunity -
TMC.) While I assume you sincerely believe the amendment will
benefit those of us who live here, I need to make up my own
mind. As a resident of the first district, I respectfully
request that you keep me and the other residents fully informed
about the changes you and your colleagues in the Senate plan to
make to the Gaming Act on Monday. Please post a copy of the new
Senate amendment to Senate Bill 862 on your web site by 5 pm
today. Anyone with knowledge of buying real estate can guess
that you do not buy property solely based on the claims of the
seller. You read the fine print in the contract. You inspect the
property. You have tests done. Please show your residents the
same respect you yourself would demand. Don’t ask us to support
an amendment we have not yet seen. The Senate’s practice of not
making complicated amendments public until minutes before their
passage makes it impossible for residents to make our wishes
known until after you have voted. Please make this new Senate
amendment to SB 862 public now.
Sincerely,
Theresa Costello

Dear Senator Fumo:
I have been following the story of State Senate Bill 862 and I am
concerned that our rights as residents of Philadelphia are not
being appopriately represented. Please disclose the changes to
the bill that were made in response to the overwhelming outcry
from Philadelphia residents. We deserve to know what our elected
officials are doing in our names.

Dear Senator Fumo:
While we appreciate your change of "heart," now
allowing/preserving local controls of casino zoning and safety
issues, we must SEE your revised ammendment.
There is NO reasonable excuse for keeping it secret. That is NOT
the democracy that our founding fathers had in mind for this
great country and city!
As far as I can tell, most of your constituents don't want
casinos in Philadelphia -- AT ALL. So, please, don't add insult
to injury...
Thank, in advance, for making it public ASAP -- with time to
read/digest/respond before you vote.

Dear Senator Fumo:
I very much appreciate your responsiveness to community concerns on the issue of
zoning preemption in SB862. Because there are many complicated issues here, I'm
sure you would agree that it's important for Philadelphians to be able to see the
final amended version of SB862 before it is voted on (presumably on Monday).
So I am joining with my fellow citizens to request that the final amendments to
SB862 be made available to the public - ideally on the Web - prior to the vote.
Thank you.
Best,
Matt Ruben
