FREE LUNCH PROGRAM WILL START ON JUNE 23,2008.LUNCH WILL BE AT 11:30AM and snack will be at 1:30pm. WE ARE ALSO HAVING A PLAY STREET FOR THE CHILDREN,THE STREET WILL BE BLOCKED OFF MONDAY THRU FRIDAY 8:30AM TO 4PM.
Althea~4055 GLENDALE ST.

This is nice considering some of us hard working people are still asleep at the 8:30am.The last time the block party took place you could not get up the street walking on either side.So we have no deliveries, and "WE" are inconvienanced at the parents expense who do not want to watch their children all summer and more than half of them are on the welfare and they still insist on eating free stuff.Everything is free except for the hard working person who is forced to listen to the thumping and pounding of their stereo at 8:30am block party or not.
I was never asked to sign any of petition for a block party and lived here 30 years many others are not to thrilled about this taking place.
What happened to the nice peaceful clean quiet neighborhood of Juniata it was all taken away with their ignorance.
The people on this block won't come out with a broom and they are home all day long with their fighting, yelling, screaming and cursing. They have little self respect for themselves or anyone else for that matter..
They used to have block party's and free food lunches on other streets and it was just wasted in the street with pieces of meat.cheese and what is next...RATS!!!
These kind of people love living in their own trash.
The city truck comes Thursday and Friday by Saturday morning it looks as if the truck never came.
I am totally sad and disgusted about the 4000 block of Glendale. They sleep all day up all night with drug parties acting like immature teens when they are actually supposed to be young adults.
Their is dog crap all around this vacinity, graffetti, they don't keep their lawns nice any more and if you do try to keep it nice they throw trash on it.
THIS IS A JOKE ON THE HARD WORKING CLASS OF 4000 GLENDALE STREET! THE FEW THAT EXIST!

Subject:   Our City Council is not a rubber stamp!

Dear Governor Rendell:
I am writing as one of the 1.5 million constituents of our
courageous City Council led by Councilman Frank DiCicco and our
elected representatives in the General Assembly (Senator Fumo,
and Representatives O達rien, Keller and Josephs) and of our
newly-elected Mayor Michael Nutter, who are united with PNA in an
effort to re-site the casinos.

Your intemperate and misplaced attack this week is not
appreciated by the residents of Philadelphia, who have worked for
over a year to relocate the two casinos in Philadelphia away from
neighborhoods.

You, and the casino operators, stand alone in the way of moving
these slots parlors to more appropriate locations. Please direct
your efforts, and the considerable goodwill you have as the most
popular politician in Pennsylvania in the last thirty years, to
finding a better location for the casinos and for creating a
waterfront which will be a valued legacy to good planning and
good government.

Respectfully,

Subject:   Health Insurance

A little over a year ago I was a 22 year-old college graduate
looking to enter the career world. Instead I found myself in a
hospital bed and was eventually diagnosed with systemic lupus,
an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body,
including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and
brain, in June of 2007. Three months ago I was additionally
diagnosed with lupus nephritis; a potentially fatal kidney
disease caused by lupus.
Since this all began I have continually battled with the
department of public welfare over health coverage. After being
diagnosed with kidney disease I was not working at all and was
for the first time able to get medical and perscription
coverage. I am now working part-time, as that is all that I'm
capable of at this time, and am being denied any type of medical
or perscription coverage. I cannot get health coverage through
my job because I only work part time and I am being told that
the city cannot help me.
This leaves me in an impossible situation. I am unable to go to
the doctor and cannot afford my medicine. I make about $600 a
month and my perscriptions cost about $1300 per month. This in
addition to the student loans I am still paying, along with the
other expenses that most people have. I cannot get health
coverage or health-sustaining medications because I make more
than $205 a month; an income limit that the supervisor from the
county assistance office admits was set 30-40 years ago, "when
the cost of living was lower."
This is precisely why people stay on welfare! Not working at
all, I was able to have medical coverage and get all of my
medications, but sitting at home waiting on the next doctor's
appointment is not what I want to do with my life. I am now
essentially being punished for doing what I can to be a
productive member of society. As of Tuesday Feb. 5th, I will
have run out of medication and will be on my way to kidney
failure.
I can not understand how I am expected to handle this on my own
when I don't even make enough income to pay for half of my
medications each month. Having nowhere to turn, I am quite
desperate and am looking to you for any help or advise you may
be able to provide me.

Dear Governor Rendell:

Do you represent all of Pennsylvania or just all cities besides
Philadelphia? Philadelphia City Council is doing their job in
looking for places other than the middle of Philadelphia to
place casinos. It is my hope that you would do the same.

Philadelphia has come a long way in the last ten years without
casinos so for this reason especially I see no need to
recklessly implement them in the rushed and unethical manner
theat they are. I don't see City Council being extorted by
local groups as you so colorfully put it as reported by the
Philadelphia Metro news on 1/31/2008, but rather the state's
elected (and appointed) representatives as being extorted by
casino operators.

Dear Governor Rendell:

Every time I hear about your comments regarding casinos, I am
more and more surprised. Philadelphia is a growing city with
plenty going for it and the idea that you are attempting to
shove casinos that we do not want down our throats is
appalling. I am particularly shocked that this is still the
case despite the recent release of Penn Praxis's riverfront
plan that would revitalize that area of the city (and does not
include casinos).

With no regard for the surrounding neighborhoods and the wishes
of those residents, the state government has tried every
sneaky, underhanded, inappropriate way to bypass Philadelphia
government and Philadelphia residents. We have elected a new
mayor that we fully expect to stand up to you and our City
Council will not be bullied into rubber stamping your horrible
proposals.

As a resident who has generally approved of your tenure as
Governor of the Commonwealth, I am extremely disappointed in
these actions.

Dear Governor Rendell:
As much as I love you Governor Rendell, the push to locate the casinos where they
have been permitted was simply the most uncreative decision every made regarding
the future of our waterfront. I don't have a problem with casinos in general as long as
they are put in the right place. Especially now with the inspiring waterfront masterplan
created by Penn Praxis, casinos will kill the life of this river. Please reconsider, it's not
too late. Please don't make this city the laughing stock of all cities in the world.

Dear Governor Rendell:
I was shocked by your comments to City Council yesterday. It
_is_ the job of City Council and the Mayor to represent us - as
it is yours. They still appear to remember that it is _our_
interests they are there to voice, while you seem to think that
representation means telling us what is good for us. I
understand that you believe that the slots parlors will bring
much needed revenue to the Commonwealth and those of us in the
river wards don't necessarily dispute that. Our most vocal
objections have been to their being located in our
neighborhoods. We have made reasonable requests at every turn -
'...not within 1500 feet of a neighborhood...' or '...just
relocate them...' and at every turn your tone has been
belligerent. I am beginning to wonder how you are personally
going to benefit from their being located at the proposed
sites.

I hope you will reconsider both your opinion and your approach
with regard to bringing casinos to Philadelphia. This is a
monumental decision and should not be taken lightly -- Perhaps
we should consider that park at Midvale and Henry as a site -
really nice location... With a little modification to 76 it
would be quite convenient for out of town traffic... Or maybe
the MCP hospital site on Henry at Indian Queen Lane...

Subject:   I hope our city council is not a rubber stamp!

Dear Governor Rendell:

I hear that you "...had some exceptionally nasty things to
say about City Council..." according to the Daily News. I'm
told you said something like "Council should suck it up and
move. One of the things I have learned in my 30 years in
politics is you can't have everyone love you all the time. If
there aren't some people mad at you, you aren't doing your job."

Well, I'm not mad at you, but not only do I disagree
heartily with your apparent intention of continuing the madness
of running our state more and more on the profits of vice, but
you also give me the appearance of having a fondness for such
decadence.

I support City Council's right to insist that the WHATEVER
is done in our city is done right, but I believe casinos are
wrong in any case.

I believe we as a city, state and nation may experience
some extremely dire consequences of continuing on the path of
Gus the demonic groundhog.

In any case, you do seem to be forcing our City Council
to "rubber stamp the two casinos" even more obnoxiously than
you're trying to intimidate our state representatives to vote
as you want them to vote on the health care issue. I'd like
everyone who needs health care to get it, but I'm very troubled
by your methods. I don't know the issues as much as I believe,
and would like to think, that my representatives do, and I'm
troubled by your tactics with them; as if you're the only one
whose salary we pay who knows how to do everything.

The more I write, the more I am convinced that you ARE
acting like a big bully. Even if you believe you're doing
what's best, I believe we must all try to treat each other with
respect, and I don't like the lack of respect that you appear
to be giving the other elected representatives of the citizens
of Pennsylvania.

I'm not mad at you, but I am angry about what I'm told
you're doing.

In the Bible, in Ephesians 4:26, it says "In your anger do
not sin" In verses 31 and 32 it goes on to say, "Get rid of
all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along
with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one
another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave
you", but it doesn't say to ignore what you are angry about.

Somewhere else in the Bible it says, "Come let us reason
together", and I'd like you to reason together with those with
whom you disagree, not threaten them. As I often say, my
default setting is suspicion, and although it often slows me
down, it ain't hurt me yet! Be suspicious of those with whom
you disagree, but listen to them. At least one of you is
wrong. Maybe both of you are but can reason out your
disagreements in the search for truth, or at least, the best
way on which you can agree.
