"The Nightmare of Norristown"
I am writing to you to plead for your assistance!
In 2003 our Philadelphia based non-profit organization was
awarded a grant from the Department of Community and Economic
Development in order bring our model youth development program
to Norristown in an effort to support the revitalization
efforts in the community. We purchased and renovated the the
facility located at 579 E. Lafayette Street; Norristown, PA
191401.
Norristown has not welcomed our organization's presence
despite our efforts to support it's community. The Borough and
School District have refused to recognize our non-profit status
which has been federally and state granted. Thus requiring our
organization to pay real estate tax in the amount roughly
equalling $24,000 per year. That is $24,000 per year that our
organization does not have. For the past four years we have
tried to appeal to the borough and paid what we could under
protest and ultimately the Borough has filed judgements against
our organization which triggered a default with our lender, The
Reinvestment Fund.
We attempted to negotiate with the lender and decided that we
would need to spend our resources elsewhere and decided to
close the program and sell the building. Our real estate broker
valued the property to be worth substantially more than what
invested and began to market the property aggressively. At the
1st broker's open house a representative from the Norristown
Planning Commission attended at warned every broker that this
property was slated for eminent domain and that they must fully
disclose this to any interested party.
At that time there were no formal notices of intent to take the
property nor are there at this time. However, since then Leo
Baglia of the Montgomery County Planning Commission has
verbally instructed the same warning to our real estate agent.
This has resulted in several buyers passing over this
investment due to the unsureness of the situation. Meanwhile
we are bearing the carrying cost and litigation expenses
associated with fending off the borough and the lender.
There has been no formal taking of the property. The agencies
involved have interfered to the point that our building is the
visual photo symbolizing "The Lafayette Street Project"; Just
go to the website.
Our organization is caught in the middle of other plans and we
do not wish to stand in the way of progress. We need your help
to compel one of these players involved in this project to step
up and buy this building outright, provide us financial
assistance, and aid us in the recovery of erroneously levied
taxes in order to avoid marring our organization and saving us
from a financial catastrophe which is well underway.
Sincerely,

Senator Arlen Specter's office is under a new FBI investigation
because several of his staff members have family relations with
several big industry lobbyists who have been awarded TENS OF
MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN US GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS with the
Senator's direct influence. I spoke with one of his staffers
who confirmed the FBI's probe. I want to know more about the
situation. If the allegations are true, I want you to route out
Sen. Specter. Lead the charge for his dismissal. It is your
duty to the tax paying, vote casting Americans that you
represent.

Dear Representatives,
Today's Pennsylvania House Calendar
lists HB 2381 -- the so-called Marriage Protection Amendment.
It could come up for a vote as soon as today.
This bill is a shame. It is a disgusting example of the ways that bigotry has taken
over the hearts and minds of some Americans.
Please protect my family and the families of my friends and neighbors by voting NO
to marriage discrimination. Please endorse REAL family values - values of honoring
love and commitment, or seeking to protect all couples and their children, by
declaring that ANY two people should have the right to legal recognition and
protection.
Please do everythign in your power to stop this bill from taking effect!
Thank you,
Gina Katharine Zorz
2729 St Mary's Rd
Ardmore, PA
The bill proposes amending the State Constitution by adding the
following:
Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or
recognized as a marriage in this Commonwealth, and neither the
Commonwealth nor any of its political subdivisions shall create or
recognize a legal status identical or substantially equivalent to that
of marriage for unmarried individuals.

Please vote against this bill. It strips rights away from new
condominium and homeowners association members. It will
prohibit these owners from suing builders and developers for
shoddy construction issues.
It is anti-consumer.
Thanks for your help!

| Subject: | Magellan Behavioral Health Hearings |
Dear Representatives:
I am a resident of Merion and work as a clinical social worker
(LCSW)for Growth Opportunity Center in Huntingdon Valley. I am
writing to request that you support a joint hearing of the House
Judiciary and Health and Human Services Committees into the
impact of the administrative practices of Magellan Behavioral
Health on patient care.
I have been increasingly concerned with the manner in which the
inefficiency of managed care companies interferes with the
quality of patient care. My administrative staff spends hours
on the phone trying to get clarification of billing procedures
and correct denial of payment. At a time when health care costs
are escalating so rapidly, it bothers me to see so much
administrative waste in the system.
Last year Magellan forgot to notify our practice that it needed
to update my credentials. Although I was fully credentialled, it
evicted me from their system and denied payments for my
services. Rather than discontinue client care, I worked without
reimbursement while our administrative staff made daily
phonecalls over a four month period trying to rectify the
situation.
These problems only drive up the cost of health care and drive
qualified practitioners away from practice.
Sincerely,
Joan F. Pollak, LCSW
