Owner names. Data entry of names seems somewhat haphazard.
For example, Sen. Fumo's properties
are listed under "Fumo Vincent" "Vincent J Fumo" and "Fumo Vincent J"
When it comes to long corporate or governmental names, expect many variations for the same owner.
Some longer names appear to
have been truncated. Overall, my impression is that names were entered hastily and little effort has been made to correct mistakes subsequently. For example, my mother's name is misspelled
even though she bought her property in 1991. And Councilman DiCicco, who bought
his house back in 1996, is nevertheless incorrectly listed in the database as "DI CIOCO FRANK"
Inflated Areas. Some properties are listed as having absurdly large areas. For
example the database lists 18 properties with an area greater than a square mile (28 million square feet) and
98 properties of a million square feet or more are quite a bargain at $200,000 a property or less.
Bogus Sales. There are a number of enormous sales (e.g., $90 billion for
a residential property) that appear to be bogus. More here.
